Sustainability Initiatives

DDR is committed to implementing sustainability programs aimed primarily at energy efficiency and waste management. We believe that initiatives geared toward these goals will have the greatest impact for our retailers, our shareholders and the environment.

DDR has organized an Internal Sustainability Committee responsible for organizing and implementing sustainability initiatives across the company’s multiple lines of business and identifying industry best practices. The sustainability committee is committed to identifying opportunities and searching industry best practices for future initiatives that have a positive effect on the community and environment.

Examples of our sustainability efforts, in addition to those outlined below, include installing segmented retaining walls to allow for plant growth, installing drought-resistant trees and other plantings to limit irrigation of landscaping, recycling metal siding and steel at construction sites, recycling paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, cardboard and glass used by customers and retailers at our shopping centers and employees at our corporate headquarters, using white TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) roofing which reduces cooling costs, and using pervious pavement in parking lots which allows rainwater to pass through to the substrate soil.
